Firecrests are now common in many different woodland habitats, as I’m finding out at the moment whilst setting up passive acoustic recorders for the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker survey and when I analyse the results.
This is an astonishing expansion from the dependence on conifers reported in the Sussex Bird Report paper on the 2018 survey and just one example of the value of species surveys and the Bird Report.

If you are completing the paper copy sent with the Newsletter, I suggest that you scan and email it to me. Everyone’s opinions are welcome and needed as your Scientific Committee sets a direction for the Bird Report into the future.
