The Sussex Ornithological Society is guided by a dedicated Council of volunteers, led by the Chair, Clare Buckle.
Bringing together a wealth of expertise, enthusiasm, and deep commitment to the county’s birdlife, the Council oversees the Society’s strategic direction and ensures its work continues to flourish.
The council members come from all aspects of the community to ensure a diverse group of people with different outlooks and experience in life. Some in conservation, others in business, some retired.
A key part of this role involves reviewing and allocating grant funds to support valuable research, conservation initiatives, and community projects across Sussex.
Under Clare’s leadership, the Council works collaboratively to promote the study of birds, nurture new generations of observers, and safeguard the region’s rich avian heritage.
There are 12 Council members, each one serving a five year term. Council meetings take place five times a year and are attended by Council members and the Society’s President, Chris Corrigan.
